Mr. Robert Lee
Bauguess, Jr., age 27, of Gilliam Road, North Wilkesboro, died Tuesday,
December 31, 2002 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr.
Bauguess was born April 25, 1975 in Wilkes County to Robert Lee Bauguess, Sr.
and Shelia Carson Walsh. Surviving are one son, Tyler Hayes Bauguess of
Carboro; his father of North Wilkesboro; his mother of Purlear; four sisters,
April Nicole Huffman of Purlear, Kimberly Lynn Pardue of Hays, Karen Prevette
of Tennessee, Marguerite Tysor of Purlear; paternal grandfather, Claude Terry
Bauguess of Lenoir; paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Shumate of Hays. Funeral
services were held Thursday, January 2 at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Howard Laney officiating. Memorials may be made to the Tyler Hayes Bauguess

Mr. Junior Minton, age 78, died Wednesday, January 1,

Mr. Junior Minton, age
78, of J Street, North Wilkesboro, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Minton was born October 2, 1924 in Wilkes County to Cane and Mertie South
Minton. He was retired from Phillips Tire Co. Surviving are three sons, Kenneth
Houston Minton of North Wilkesboro, Frank Minton of Moravian Falls, David
Minton of Granite Falls; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4 at Miller Funeral Chapel with
the Rev. Mike Minton officiating. Burial was in the North Wilkesboro Cemetery.
Miller Funeral Service was charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Frances Mugridge Hendrix, age 77, died Thursday,
January 2, 2003
Mrs. Frances Mugridge
Hendrix, age 77, widow of Howard Hendrix of Applewood Lane, North Wilkesboro,
died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at her home. Mrs. Hendrix was born February 20,
1925 in Littlehampton, United Kingdom to John Caleb and Emily Legget Mugridge.
She was a veteran of the British Army and served during World War II and came
to the United States in 1946. Surviving are two sons, John Hendrix of North
Wilkesboro, Wayne Hendrix of Millers Creek; three daughters, Alison Blevins of
Millers Creek, Gail Laws, Carol Davis, both of North Wilkesboro; two sisters,
Alison Oaks, Betty Smithson both of the United Kingdom; five grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Saturday, January 4 at
Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dean Rector officiating. Memorials may be

3, 2003

Call, age 58, of Bens Mill Road, Wilkesboro, died Friday, January 3, 2003 at
Winston-Salem Rehab Nursing Center.
A graveside service was held Sunday, January
5, at Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Pardue
officiating.
Mr. Call was born August
29, 1944 in Wilkes County to Gertrude Call.
He is survived by one
daughter, Loretta Charlotte Call of Moravian Falls; three sons, Thomas Lee Call
of Wilkesboro, Howard Wayne Call, Steven Jason Call, both of North Wilkesboro;
two sisters, Tammy Wilson of Charlotte, Rosie Bouchelle of Wilkesboro; two
brothers, Bobby Arnold Call, Thornton Eudene Call of Wilkesboro and five
grandchildren.

Reid Marlow, age 76, of Eastwood Drive, North Wilkesboro, wife of the late
Albert Marlow, died Friday, January 3, 2003 at Wilkes Regional Medical
Center. Funeral services were held
Monday, January 6, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with the
Bishop A. Theon Johnson and the Elder Tim M. Marlow officiating. Burial was in
the church cemetery. Mrs. Marlow was born April 8, 1926 in Iredell County to
Mack and Lula Reid Rash. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints. She is survived by two daughters, Sherley Ann Marlow Mastin
of Ronda, Kathy Lucille Marlow Johnson of North Wilkesboro; one son, Billy
Aldean Marlow of the home; one sister, Rosa Myers of Hamptonville; one brother,
Jim Reid of Hamptonville; two half-sisters, Sylvia Rector of Stony Point, Polly
All Windham of South Carolina; one half-brother, Mitchell Rash of Statesville;
eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home

Parlier, age 90, of West Main Street, Williamston, NC, wife of the late George
Stuart Parlier, died Thursday, January 2, 2003. A graveside service was held Saturday, January 4, 2003 at
Mountain Park Cemetery with Rev. Alfred E. Andrews Jr. officiating. Mrs.
Parlier was born January 22, 1912 in Mecklenburg County to Lonnie Lee and Tina
Mae Godfrey. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Williamston. She is
survived by one daughter, Patsy U. Dennis of Williamston; one brother, Leighton
Godfrey of Lenoir; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may
be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 109 Church Street, Williamston, NC 27892.

Age 74, widow of Nathaniel Petty of Main Street, North Wilkesboro, died Friday,
January 3, 2003 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Petty was born August 24, 1928 in Forsyth County to Samuel
and Josephine Parks Goode. She was a member of Parks Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday, January
5, at Parks Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Otis Brown, the Rev. James
Barber, and the Rev. Montreal Howell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Service was in charge of the

Lovette, age 89, of Victoria Road, Asheville, wife of the late John Henry
Lovette, died Sunday, January 5, 2003 at Magnolia Health Care in Asheville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 2:00 p.m., January 8, at
Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Howard Laney officiating. Burial will be
in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Lovette was born January 5, 1914 in Wilkes
County to Robert Lee and Maudie E. Baugess Hayes. She was welcomed into the
Oteen Baptist Church in 1985. She is
survived by one daughter, Betty Jo Lovette of Asheville; one son, Robert Lee
Lovette of Asheville; one sister, Bernice Thompson of North Wilkesboro; ten
grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to

Harrold, age 66, of Bar-Mill Road, Millers Creek, died Saturday, January 4,
2003 at the home of her daughter. A
memorial service will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m., January 8, 2003, in
Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Paul M. Hugger officiating. Mrs. Harrold was born March 13, 1936 in
Wilkes County to Horace and Ethel Brock Lackey. She was Manager of the
Alleghany Lodge of New River Behavioral Health Care. Mrs. Harrold was a member
of Bethel Branch Church of Christ. She
is survived by three daughters, Sheila Yale of Millers Creek, Patricia Handy,
Sherry Mabry, both of North Wilkesboro; one son, Darrell Gene Harrold of
Millers Creek; one sister, Karen Haney of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Paul
Lackey of Taylorsville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes,

Johnson, Age 97, widow of Jesse E. Bare and Baxter Johnson, of Walshtown Road,
Boomer, died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care. Mrs. Johnson was born October 30, 1905 in
Wilkes County to Tom and Ider Church Faw. She was a member of Calvary Baptist
Church. Surviving are three sons; Fred
Bare of Wilkesboro, Carl Bare, Raymond Bare, both of Boomer; eight daughters;
Dettie Holder, Pansy Walsh, Shirley Bentley, all of Boomer, Dessie Mae Morgan,
Rosa Lee Morgan, both of Stanfield, Mary Magdalene Kilby of Moravian Falls,
Wanda Geraldine Bare of Greensboro, Brenda Puckett of Wilkesboro; one brother,
Carl Faw of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Evazelle Eller of Millers Creek,
Isabelle Dyer of North Wilkesboro; thirty-nine grandchildren; and numerous
great-grandchildren. Funeral services
were held Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev.
Richard Owings and the Rev. Fellman Cheek officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Baptist Church

Prevette, age 35, of Byrd Road, Roaring River, died Monday, January 6, 2003 at
his home. Mr. Prevette was born March
4, 1967 in Wilkes County to Leo Prevette and Joan Waddell Poplin. He was a
member of Rachel Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his parents, both of
Roaring River, are one brother, Gary Scott Prevette of Roaring River; two
sisters, Jeannie Cahill of Elkin, Tina Baker of North Wilkesboro; one
half-brother, Mickey Lewis of Boone; one half-sister, Ginger Watson of Boone;
two step-sisters, Amanda Sizemore of Winston-Salem, Tina Jennings of Elkin;
paternal grandmother, Sallie Prevette of Roaring River; maternal grandmother,
Lenona Waddell of North Wilkesboro. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, January 9 at Rachel Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Carson and
the Rev. Leon Mikles officiating. The
body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box

Souther, age 79, wife of Dewitt Warren Souther of Souther Road, Wilkesboro,
died Tuesday, January 7 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Souther was born October 14, 1923 in
Wilkes County to John N. and Iduma Hayes Hendren. She was a member of Fishing
Creek Arbor Baptist Church. Surviving
in addition to her husband are two sons, Roland Souther of North Wilkesboro,
Earl Souther of Wilkesboro; one daughter, Sheila Minton of North Wilkesboro;
one brother, Glenn O. Hendren of Greensboro; two sisters, Eula Marlow of North
Wilkesboro, Doris Johnson of Wilkesboro; five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Funeral services
will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10 at Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church
with the Rev. David Wellborn officiating. The body will be placed in the church
at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at
Miller Funeral Service from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday night. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be

Mr. Haggie William Faw, age 89, died Saturday, January
4, 2003
Mr. Haggie William
Faw, age 89, of Millers Creek, died Saturday, January 4, 2003 in Bridgeport,
Texas. A graveside service with
military rites by Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1142, will be held today, 2:00
p.m., at Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Millers Creek with the Rev.
Mike Church officiating. Mr. Faw was
born in Wilkes County, September 25, 1913, to Monroe and Naomi Myers Faw. He
was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
Mr. Faw is survived by one son, Johnnie M. Faw of Springtown, TX; two
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Mr. Faw served in the US Army during
World War II. He was employed at Gaddy Motor Company for 17 years and also at
Empire Cadillac-Olds. Mr. Faw also served as assistant coroner for several
years. He worked for the Wilkes County Sheriff Department for several years. He
developed Green Acres Development in Millers Creek. Mr. Faw was a building
contractor before his retirement. He was a member of the North Wilkesboro
Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
Pleasant Home Baptist Church, 735 Pleasant Home Church Road, Millers Creek, NC
