Mr. Philip Wesley Dancy, age 73, died Monday, October 13, 2003

Mr. Philip Wesley Dancy, age 73, of Winkler Mill Road, Wilkesboro died Monday, October 13, 2003 at his home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, 2:00 at Old Reddies River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Leon Church officiating. Mr. Dancy was born in Wilkes County, March 1, 1930, to Ira Gilbert and Ella Nora Phillips Dancy. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Dancy worked at Carolina Mirror Corp for many years and retired from Kincaid Furniture Company in Lenoir. Mr. Dancy is survived by two sisters, Joyce McNeil of Wilkesboro, Katherine Hayes of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Gilbert Dancy of Randleman, Norman Dancy of Kernersville. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tonight. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Old Reddies River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1128 Winkler Mill Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697. Mrs. Julia Walker Snyder, age 80, died Sunday, October 12, 2003

Mrs. Julia Walker Snyder, age 80, of Cartpath Road, North Wilkesboro, widow of “Pete” Snyder, died Sunday, October 12, 2003 at The Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Craven Ford officiating. Entombment was in the mausoleum. Mrs. Snyder was born November 8, 1922 in Wilkes County to Sylvester Eugene and Nancy Holloway Walker. Before retiring she was controller of Woodward Specialty and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mac Warren of North Wilkesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Shelia Barnes of Wilkesboro; two sisters, Cora Lee Wiles of North Wilkesboro, Shelby Jean Lineberry of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Halley Walker of Hays, Bill Walker of North Wilkesboro, Steve Walker of Lewisville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

 

Mr. David Wheless Patterson, age 49, died Saturday, October 11, 2003

Mr. David Wheless Patterson, age 49, of Eli Brewer Road, North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, October 11, 2003 at his home. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, 3:00 p.m., October 15, 2003 at Rachel Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Mikles, the Rev. Ted Combs, and the Rev. Marvin Blackburn officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Patterson was born January 18, 1954 in Franklin County to Cameron and Margaret Ball Patterson. He had worked as News director for WWWC and WIFM Radio. Mr. Patterson served on the Board of Directors of the Associated Press. He is survived by his wife, Debra Jean Call Patterson of the home; one daughter, Melissa Patterson Hutchins of North Wilkesboro; one son , Derek Scott Patterson of the home; two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Mrs. Margaret Craven Foster, age 80, died Friday, October 10, 2003

Mrs. Margaret Craven Foster, age 80, of Gordon Road, North Wilkesboro, died Friday, October 10, 2003 at her home. Funeral services were held Monday, October 13, 2003 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Dean Simpson and the Rev. Robert Paul Lamb officiating. Burial was at Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Foster was born November 13, 1922 in Wilkes County to William A. and Mamie Hayes Craven. She worked for B&L Sales and Service and is a member of Morning Star Fellowship. A daughter, Gail Foster and a son, David Foster preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, H. Clint Foster of the home; two sisters, Nancy C. Madison of Morganton, Betty C. McMillen of Springfield, OH and brother, Bill Craven of Asheboro. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Dr., North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Ms. Helen Ruby Beshears, age 86, died Friday, October 10, 2003

Ms. Helen Ruby Beshears, age 86, of Fletcher Street, Wilkesboro died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Britthaven Nursing Home. A graveside service was held Monday, October 13, 2003 at Mountlawn Memorial Park. Ms. Beshears was born in Guilford County to Aaron Lee and Margaret Roten Beshears. She served in the United States Army Nurse Corp during WWII. She was the first commissioned officer from Wilkes County to enter the Army. Ms. Beshears served in Africa and in Italy for three years. When she returned to Wilkes she continued her work as a nurse with the Wilkes County Health Department. She was a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by one brother, Joe Beshears of Knoxville, TN; two nieces and one nephew. Memorials may be made to Stony Hill Baptist Church, 406 Summit Road, Purlear, NC 28665. Mrs. Edna Pearl Rich Pegram, age 75, died Friday, October 10, 2003

Mrs. Edna Pearl Rich Pegram, age 75, of Canna Drive, Hays, died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Steve LeaShomb officiating. Mrs. Pegram was born November 14, 1927 in Bladen County to Namon and Pearl Smith Rich. She was retired from Guilford Mills in Greensboro. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Pegram of the home; four daughters, Joyce Ann Cain of Clinton, Jean Cockman of Siler City, Cindy Landwehrmann of West Jefferson, Gail Rogers of Wilmington; two sons, Timothy Rich of Asheboro, Michael Stephenson of Norfolk, VA; two step-children, Brian Pegram of San Antonio, TX, Cheryl Pegram of Seattle, WA; one sister, Linda R. Holly of Burgaw, NC; six brothers, Cecil Rich of Wilson, Coleman Rich of Mississippi, Robert Rich, Floyd Rich both of Burlington, Kenneth Rich of Norfolk, VA; Thomas Rich, Fayetteville; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jean Parsons Johnson, age 73, died Thursday, October 9, 2003

Mrs. Jean Parsons Johnson, age 73, widow of Wilton Johnson of Charlotte, formerly of Millers Creek, died Thursday, October 9, 2003 at White Oak Manor in Charlotte. Mrs. Johnson was born February 23, 1930 in Wilkes County to Auburn A. and Bertha Spears Parsons. Surviving are one son, Wayne Johnson of North Wilkesboro; four brothers, Freeland Hal Parsons, Jackie Parsons, both of Millers Creek, Caster Parsons of Huntersville, Carlos Parsons of Greensboro; three sisters, Nadine Anderson, Virginia Parsons, both of Winston-Salem, Christine Shepherd of North Wilkesboro; three grandchildren and three great -grandchildren. Graveside services were held Monday, October 13 at the North Wilkesboro Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Agnew officiating. Miller Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

 

Mr. Paul Leroy Mastin, age 78, died Wednesday, October 8, 2003

Mr. Paul Leroy Mastin, age 78, of Hwy 268E, Roaring River, widower of Betty Porter Mastin, died Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at his home. Funeral services were held Friday 2:00 PM, October 10, 2003 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Rex Foster officiating, Burial was in Roaring River United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Mastin was born April 27, 1925 in Wilkes County to John H. and Myra Joyner Mastin. He was a poultry farmer. Mr. Mastin served in the United States Navy during WWII. A son, Paul Stephen Mastin, preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan M. and Yorkie Johnson, Jane M. and Odean Carter all of Roaring River; a daughter-in-law, Anne W. Mastin of Roaring River; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Mrs. Claire Lovette, age 85, died Sunday, October 5, 2003

Mrs. Claire Lovette, age 85, of Woodlawn Avenue, Parma, Ohio, widow of Parks Lovette passed away, Sunday, October 5, 2003 at the Parkside Villa. A graveside service was held Wednesday, October 8, at Mountlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. John T. Vannoy, III officiating. Mrs. Lovette was born in West Virginia, September 11, 1918, to Harvey and Martha Jane Bland. Mrs. Lovette is survived locally by a sister in law, Sue L. Vannoy of North Wilkesboro. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

 

Kiffin Anderson Hennessee, age 78, died Sunday, October 5, 2003

Kiffin Anderson Hennessee, age 78, died Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, from injuries suffered in a fall Friday morning. Kiffin and his wife, Miriam Phillips Hennessee were married for over 58 years, and had resided for the past 43 years at 612 Winston Street in Wilkesboro. Kiffin had been retired since 1992; he had spent 30 years in the tire business with his brothers-in-law, Howard and Bruce Phillips of North Wilkesboro. Kiffin served in the Pacific during World War II, assembling and testing torpedoes in the United States Navy. He achieved an Associates Degree at Asheville-Biltmore College ( now UNC-Asheville ) in the early 1950’s, following his discharge from the Navy. Kiffin was a Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite as part of North Wilkesboro Masonic Lodge 407. He also served for some 20 years as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 334, First Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro. Kiffin is survived by his wife Miriam; two sons, Keith Hennessee of Houston, Texas and Philip Hennessee of Atlanta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Karl Hennessee of Toulouse, France, Christiane Zacharian of Honolulu, Hawaii, Katie Hennessee, a student at Tulane University in New Orleans, Alison Hennessee of Atlanta, Georgia, Ian Hennessee of Atlanta, Georgia, and Zachary Hennessee of Atlanta, Georgia; one great-grandson, Nicholas Hennessee, age 3, of Toulouse, France. Kiffin grew up in Burnsville, North Carolina, the son of Wren and Ruby Hennessee. Funeral services were held Friday, October 10, at the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. N. Nelson Granade, Jr., officiating. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The Family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, PO Box 458, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659, where Kiffin and Miriam have been members since 1958, or to the Old Hickory Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 6600 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, NC 27106 for use with less privileged children.
