Delmore Hartness, Sr., age 69, died Monday, October 27, 2003
Mr. Rabon Delmore Hartness, Sr., age 69,
of Pennington Road, North Wilkesboro, died Monday, October 27 at his home. Mr. Hartness was born June 10, 1934 in
Alexander County to William Ivan and Ina Marlowe Hartness. He attended Beulah
Land Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife Mary Stamey Hartness of the home;
three sons, Rabon Delmore Hartness, Jr., of Statesville, David Hartness,
Carlton Hartness, both of North Wilkesboro; two daughters, Arlene Royal of
North Wilkesboro, Darlene Church of Hays; four brothers, Willard Hartness,
Alton Hartness, Gerald Hartness, Larry Hartness all of Statesville; two
sisters, Rachael Holland of Statesville, Reba Shaver of Hiddenite; ten
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 30 at
Beulah Land Baptist Church with the Rev. Junior Harrold officiating. The body
will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Church
cemetery. Memorials may be made to
Hospice of Wilkes, 1907 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Miller

Mr. Luther
Bell, age 82, died Saturday, October
25, 2003
Mr. Luther Bell, age 82, of Windy Ridge
Road, North Wilkesboro died Saturday, October 25, 2003 at Wilkes Regional
Medical Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at 421
Gospel Tabernacle with the Rev. Danny Foster and the Rev. Michael Dyess
officiating. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Bell was born July 15,
1921 in Wilkes County to B. E. and Lenora Wingler Bell. He was owner of Bell’s
Coal and Produce. He is survived by his wife, Louise Owens Bell of the home;
three daughters, Hilda Bell Lowe,
Wanda Bell Church, Christine Bell Wyatt all of North Wilkesboro; one step-son, Boyce
Galloway of North Wilkesoboro; one sister, Lillie Mae Pilkington of Springboro,
OH; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.

C. Walker, Jr., age 83, died Saturday, October 25, 2003
Mr. Harvey C. Walker, Jr., age 83, of West
Waugh Street, North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, October 25, 2003 at Avante at
Wilkesboro. Mr. Walker was born March 7, 1920 in Wilkes County to Harvey C. and
Lenora Hendren Walker, Sr. He was retired from Broyhill Industries. He is
survived by his wife, Mollie Gryder Clonch Walker of the home; six
step-daughters, Joy Clonch, Lorene Brewer, Jane Benge all of North Wilkesboro,
Esther McGlamery of McGrady, Viola Lane of Hays, Libby Moore of Wilkesboro;
five step-sons, Monte Clonch, Arnold Clonch, Sherman Clonch, John Clonch all of
North Wilkesboro and Lindsay Clonch of Wilkesboro. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral
Home is in charge of the services.

Shumate, age 69, died Saturday, October 25, 2003
Mr. Lee R. Shumate, age 69, of Jones Dancy
Street, North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, October 25 at his home. Mr. Shumate was born December 25, 1933 in
Wilkes County to Cleo and Oakie Bauguess Shumate. He was US Army Military
Police Veteran. He was an upholsterer at Key City Furniture. Surviving are his wife, Madeline Wood Shumate
of the home; one daughter Melissa Shumate Anderson of Moravian Falls and one
sister Ellen Miller of North Wilkesboro. Graveside services were held Monday,
October 27 at Mountlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Kenneth Wiles officiating. Memorials

Dale Wood, age 43, died Friday, October
24, 2003
Mr. Timothy Dale Wood, age 43, of Traphill
Road, Traphill died Friday, October 24, 2003 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center
. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Bethany Baptist Church
with the Rev. Tommy Mathis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr.
Wood was born in Wilkes County September 22, 1960 to James Daniel and Margaret
Sidden Wood. Mr. Wood was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. He is
survived by his wife Rita Absher Wood of Traphill; one daughter Jessica LeAnn
Wood of Traphill; his mother and step-father Margaret Wood Brink and Donald K.
Brink, Jr., of Galax, Va.; two brothers James Michael Wood, Darrell Blake Wood both
of Roaring River. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.

Douglas Woodie, age 93, died Thursday, October 23, 2003
Mrs. Ethel Douglas Woodie, age 93, of Rock
Creek Community, formerly of McGrady, widow of Oscar Reed Woodie, died
Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care. Funeral services
were held Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Hilltop Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim
Rhoades and the Rev. John T. Vannoy, III officiating. Burial was in Mountlawn
Memorial Park. Mrs. Woodie was born September 8, 1910 in Wilkes County to Edgar
E. and Nancy Ballard Douglas. She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church. She
is survived by three daughters, Bonnie
Shumate, Jean Rhoades both of North Wilkesboro; Linda Huffman of Wilkesboro;
one son, Paul Dean Woodie of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Glenn W. Douglas,
Sr., of McGrady; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. Memorials

Mr. Larry Stephenson “Steve” Watkins, Jr.,
age 29, of Hill Avenue, Wilkesboro, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 in
Waynesville, NC. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Goshen
Baptist Church with Bishop C. O. Reid officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery. Mr. Watkins was born February 12, 1974 in Wilkes County to Larry S.
and Mary Elizabeth Blevins Watkins, Sr. He worked for Martin Roofing Company. He
is survived by his wife, Shannon Morrison Watkins of the home; two daughters,
Simone Cutler of the home, Elizabeth Watkins of Jacksonville, NC; one son, Cameron
Watkins of the home; his mother, Beth Watkins of Oak Island, NC; two sisters,
Dawn Smith of Supply, NC, Kendra Watkins of Oak Island, NC; one brother, Derek
Watkins of Oak Island, NC; grandparents, Keath & Helen Spaulding of
