Mr. W. Selden “Bill” Steiger, age 92,

died Monday, July 12, 2004

Mr. W. Selden “Bill” Steiger, age 92, of Colonial Drive, North Wilkesboro, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., July 16, 2004, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Dr. Paul Brunner officiating and military rites by Post #1142 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.   Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mr. Steiger was born January 25, 1912, in Newark, New Jersey to Walter Charles and Ruth Minna Russell Steiger.  He attended Brown University class of 1934 and received a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Engineering from Ohio State University.  Before retiring he was an overseas agent for American Life Insurance Company.  Mr. Steiger was a member of St. Hughes Catholic Church in Coconut Grove, Florida.  He was on officer in the United States Army during WWII and past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Miami, Florida.  Mr. Steiger was a member of the Sigma Nu National Fraternity and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America.

His wife, Clara Louise Goss Steiger and a sister, Katherine Russell Steiger preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons,  Walter Selden Steiger of Pottsville, PA and DeLand, FL,  Carl W. Steiger of North Wilkesboro; two grandsons,  Carl W. Steiger of Miami, FL and W. Scott Steiger of McDonough, GA.

The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the services.

Mrs. Tommye Alexander Bennett,

age 72, died Monday, July 12, 2004

Mrs. Tommye Alexander Bennett, age 72, of Spruce Street, Ext, Wilkesboro, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at her home.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., July 17, 2004, at White Plains Baptist Church with Dr. Monroe Huffman, the Rev. Jerry Alexander and the Rev. Earl Alexander officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bennett was born July 2, 1932, in Wilkes County to Paul Watson and Kesiah Mae Bryant Alexander.  She was retired from Tyson Foods and was a member of Arbor Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Bennett of Advance, NC, Debby, Taylor of Wilkesboro; one sister, Betty Jo Bauguss of North Wilkesboro and one brother, Ivan Eugene Alexander of Harrisburg, PA.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 17, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

Mr. Dewitt Adams, age 76,

died Saturday, July 10, 2004

Mr. Dewitt Adams, age 76, of Troy Drive, North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Adams was born July 3, 1928, in Wilkes County to Raymond and Danie Dillard Adams.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a US Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Gaddy Motor Company.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Shumate Adams of the home; three daughters, Ginger Woodfin of Winston-Salem, Brenda Carver of North Wilkesboro, Linda Troutman of Concord; one sister, Carol Taylor of North Wilkesboro; one granddaughter, Pam Barbour of Hudson; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro with the Pastor Kent Wood officiating.  Burial with military rites by the VFW Post 1142 was in the Mountlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Claude Shelton “Rick” Triplett, age 82,

died Saturday, July 10, 2004

Mr. Claude Shelton “Rick” Triplett, age 82, of Traphill Road, Traphill died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin.

A graveside service, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 was held Tuesday, July 13, at Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Rex Eldreth, VFW Chaplin and Mr. Cecil Wood officiating.

Mr. Triplett was born in Wilkes County, November 26, 1921, to Hardin and Pearl Waddell Triplett.  He graduated from Traphill High School with perfect attendance.  Mr. Triplett served in the US Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and as a military policeman in Washington, DC.  He retired from Brendle’s Wholesale of Elkin.

Rick Triplett was known for his involvement in the community.  He served as an original member of the Board of Directors of Wilkes Telephone Co-op.  He was active in local political elections, a Mason, and known for carrying the Olympic Torch in Wilkes County.

Mr. Triplett is survived by his wife, Arnita King Triplett of the home; two daughters, Claudia T. Robinson of Huntersville, Sherry T. Wood of Wilkesboro; two sons, Tony S. Triplett of Traphill, Mark A. Triplett of Randleman; two sisters, Lillie Billings of Traphill, Rosa Castevens of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Paul Triplett of Traphill; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice or to Round Hill Baptist Church, C/O Lucy Cothren, 8586 Traphill Road, Traphill, NC  28685.

Mr. Bud Moore, age 76,

died Saturday, July 10, 2004

Mr. Bud Moore, age 76, of Moore Ridge Road, North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Moore was born August 3, 1927, in Wilkes County to Gent and Ruey Brooks Moore.  He was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church, a horse owner and trainer and very active in the Blue Ridge Wagon Train.  He also was a poultry farmer and retired from Central Telephone Company.

Surviving are his wife, Pansy Chambers Moore of the home; two sons, Charlie Moore, Tommy Moore both of North Wilkesboro; two daughters, Becky Mabe, Nancy Blackburn both of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Box Moore, Bill Moore both of North Wilkesboro; one sister, Betty Prevette of Mocksville; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, 2004, at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Burl Faw, the Rev. Doug Nab, the Rev. Kendall Hatton and the Rev. Gary Benesh officiating.  Burial was in the Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Wilkes Relay for Life, or to Wanda’s Angels, all in C/O Nancy Blackburn 274 Eastwood Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC  28659.

Mrs. Razia M. Anthony, age 84,

died Saturday, July 10, 2004

Mrs. Razia M. Anthony, age 84, of Britthaven Nursing Center, Wilkesboro, formerly of Hays, widow of Murad Ali Mahmood Anthony, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Britthaven Nursing Center.

A funeral mass of Christian burial at St. John Baptist de La Salle Catholic Church will be held today, Wednesday, July 14, 10:00 a.m., with the Father John Hanic officiating.

Mrs. Anthony was born in Pakistan, August 15, 1919, to Mohammed Khan and Zainab Kurpalo.

Mrs. Anthony is survived by three daughters, Noor Mohammed of Pakistan, Saleem Akhtar of Canada, Veronica Anthony of Hays; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Imogene Blizzard Widener,

age 56, died Friday, July 9, 2004

Mrs. Imogene Blizzard Widener, age 56, of N. Minton Road, Millers Creek, widow of James Lee Widener, Sr., died July 9, 2004, at her home.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Lyn Lambert officiating.

Mrs. Widener was born in Carroll County, MD, August 8, 1947, to Joseph and Helen McQuay Blizzard.

Mrs. Widener is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Louise Widener of Millers Creek, Jeannette Lynn Widener of McGrady; three sons, James Lee Widener, Jr., Cecil Eugene Widener both of Millers Creek, Steven Wayne Widener of McGrady; her mother, Helen Blizzard of Westminster, MD; one step-son, Jimmy Wayne Widener of Moravian Falls; one sister, Jenny Lee Kirk of California, PA; one brother, Carl Blizzard of MD; eleven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1907 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC  28659.

Mrs. Edna Virginia Miller Wellborn, age 87,

died Friday, July 9, 2004

Mrs. Edna Virginia Miller Wellborn, age 87, of Hayes Welborn Road, Deep Gap, widow of Richard Edward Wellborn, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Stony Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Eller and the Rev. Homer Greene officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Wellborn was born in Watauga County, June 30, 1917, to Iona Miller Bumgarner.  She was a member of Stony Fork Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wellborn is survived by three sons, Billy E .and Bobbie Wellborn of North Wilkesboro, Odis Henderson and Pat Wellborn of Deep Gap, Richard Dean and Linda Wellborn of Millers Creek; three grandchildren, Sandy and Jerry Anderson of North Wilkesboro, Remi Wellborn of Frederick, MD, Gina and Don Russell of Locust, NC; three great-grandchildren, Lorrie Anderson of Portland, OR, Richard and Christi Greer of Deep Gap, Sherman Greer of Locust; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Paul Oliver Reynolds, age 72,

died Thursday, July 8, 2004

Mr. Paul Oliver Reynolds, age 72, of Welborn Avenue, Wilkesboro, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service was held Sunday, July 11, at Haymeadow Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Tate officiating.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Wilkes County, June 27, 1932, to James Norman and Varina Elizabeth Dillard Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by two brothers, Dwight Reynolds of McGrady, James Glenn Reynolds Hernando, MS.

Mrs. Donna McGlamery Adkins,

age 53, died Thursday, July 8, 2004

Mrs. Donna McGlamery Adkins, age 53, of Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Mrs. Adkins was born November 30, 1950, in Iredell County to D.C. and Arlee Davis McGlamery.

Surviving are three daughters, Jennifer Miles, Sarah Lukacs, Olivia Adkins all of the home; her mother of Wilkesboro; one brother, Craig McGlamery of Charlotte; two sisters, Carolyn Chatham of Wilkesboro and Trina McGlamery of Winston-Salem.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Highway 16 with the Rev. Carl Byrd and the Rev. Phil Chapman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Edward James Reavis, age 63,

died Wednesday, July 7, 2004

Mr. Edward James Reavis, age 63, of Campbell Road, North Wilkesboro, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Reavis was born November 18, 1940, in Wilkes County to Raymond James and Mary Dell Higgins Reavis. He was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother of North Wilkesboro are four brothers, Rev. Jerry Reavis, Larry Reavis, both of North Wilkesboro, Roy Reavis of Hays,  Rev. Richard Reavis of Millers Creek; and three sisters, Patsy Anderson, Glenda Cody and Tina Burchette all of North Wilkesboro.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10, at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Reavis and the Rev. Dean Rector officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Bernice Hall Owens, age 79,

died Wednesday, July 7, 2004

Mrs. Bernice Hall Owens, age 79, of Sparta Road, McGrady, widow of Hardin Owens, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Privette officiating.  Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Owens was born in Wilkes County, July 6, 1925, to Jorry and Orchia Handy Hall.  She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.  Mrs. Owens was secretary at Mulberry Elementary School until her retirement.  She was also the co owner of Blue Ridge Candles.

Mrs. Owens is survived by three daughters, Becky Owens of Sharon, Vermont, Jennie Owens Hubbard of Norwich, Vermont, Denise Owens Johnson of McGrady; two brothers, Wayne Hall of Winston-Salem, Jimmy Hall of North Wilkesboro; five grandchildren.

Mrs. Leta Cheek Gentry Kilby, age 92, of North Wilkesboro, widow of William McClellan Kilby, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Villages of Wilkes.

A graveside service was held Saturday, July 10, at Mountlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Richard Owings officiating.

Mrs. Kilby was born in Wilkes County, April 20, 1912, to Wesley and Annis Jolly Cheek.

Mrs. Kilby is survived by one daughter, Nelda Gentry of Millers Creek; two sisters, Frankie Walker of Kernersville, Peda Martin of Havelock; three brothers, Leo Cheek, Quincy Cheek both of Roaring River, Kenneth Cheek of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burl Leon Summers, age 44,

died Friday, July 2, 2004

Mr. Burl Leon Summers, age 44, of Old Moravian Falls Road, Wilkesboro, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 9, 2004, at Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jenny Stewart and the Rev. Mike Hamby officiating.  Entombment was in Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mr. Summers was born August 17, 1959, in Iredell County to Robert Shelton and Katherine Webster Summers.  He was the owner of Summers Siding and Windows and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmington.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Marie Heskett Summers of the home; one daughter,  Casey Marie Hart of Granite Falls; three sons,  Shane Robert Summers, Austin Vaughn Summers both of Wilkesboro, Timothy Keith Hart, II of Hudson; his mother, Katherine Webster Summers of Wilkesboro; two sisters, Shelia Gordon of  Melbourne, Florida, Belinda S. Shew of Hanover, Virginia; two brothers, John Webster Summers of Wilkesboro and Daniel Von Summers of New Orleans, Louisiana.
