M. (Bill) Nicholson, age 68, of Vashti Road, Hiddenite, died Tuesday, February
1, 2005, at his home.
Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, 6:00 p.m., February 2, at Reins-Sturdivant
Chapel in North Wilkesboro with the Rev.
Donald Blevins, the Rev. Glenn Dancy, and the Rev. Joey Campbell
officiating. Private graveside services
will be held at Linney’s Grove
Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Rev.
Nicholson was born in Alamance Co., NC, July 1, 1936, to Lewis P. and Thelma
Inscore Nicholson. He was a member of
Linney’s Grove Baptist Church.
Rev.
Nicholson served as pastor at Linney’s Grove
Baptist Church,
Mt. Olive
Baptist Church,
Maple Grove Baptist
Church, Bethany
Baptist Church,
and Mt. Pisgah Baptist
Church. Rev. Nicholson retired from G. L. Wilson
Building Co as vice president of the electrical division.
Rev.
Nicholson is survived by his wife, Joan J. Nicholson of the home; two
daughters, Pam Campbell and husband, Joey Jan Campbell and husband, Donald all
of Union Grove; one son, Don Nicholson and his wife, Pam of Hiddenite; grandchildren,
Travis and Julie Campbell, Bradley Nicholson, Melissa and Greg Bowman, Brett
Nicholson, Mack and Cindy Campbell, Ashley Campbell and fiancé, Timmy Pennell,
April and Wesley Rexrode, Sami Campbell, Brian Campbell, Chet Campbell; great-grandchildren,
Tyler Campbell, Bailey Bowman, Amie Bowman, Cassidy Campbell.
The family
will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home following the service.
Pallbearers
will be grandsons.

Mrs. Huffman
was born February 7, 1931, in Wilkes
County to Edmond Columbus
and Martha McNeil Dyer Foster. She
retired from Mount
Pleasant Elementary School
as a teacher’s assistant and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist
Church.
She is
survived by two sons, Ronald A. Huffman and wife Sharron of Wilkesboro, Eric E.
Huffman and wife, Sandra of Wilkesboro; three sisters, Mary Ellen Triplett of
Wilkesboro, Ella Mae Walsh of Boomer, Shirley Crawford of Clemmons; two
brothers, Tommy L. Foster of Oklahoma City, OK, Warren Dyer of Boomer; four
grandchildren, Melanie Huffman Mathews, Amanda Huffman, Brian Huffman, and Joshua
Huffman.
The family
will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Wednesday night from 6:00
p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Grover
was born May 8, 1925 in Ashe
County to James Edgar and
Ada Lucinda Richardson Billings.
Surviving are
one son, Scott Grover of Crumpler; one brother, James Edward Billings of North
Wilkesboro; and one sister; Ruby Keeter of Virginia Beach, Va.; two
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Elizabeth Glass McCarter, age 93, of Old Homestead Road, Wilkesboro, widow of
Granville McCarter, died Monday, January 31, 2005, at Avante of Wilkesboro.
Funeral
services will be held today, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., February 2, at Antioch Baptist Church
in the Antioch Community with the Rev. Ken Pardue, the Rev. Gary McCarter, and
the Rev. Larry Lefler officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30
p.m. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. McCarter
was born in Wilkes
County, March 30, 1911,
to James Manuel and Mattie Jane Mastin Glass. She was the oldest member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. McCarter was an avid gardener and
quilter.
A grandson,
Jerry McCarter, two sisters, Minnie Ladd, Rebecca Gray, three brothers, Arthur
Glass, Felix Glass, and Walter Lee Glass preceded Mrs. McCarter in death.
Mrs. McCarter
is survived by one daughter, Mable Lucille Mathis of
Wilkesboro; one son, John Wesley McCarter of Twinsburg, OH; one sister, Martha
Younger of North Wilkesboro; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two
great, great-grandchildren.

Mr. Love was
born August 17, 1955 in Wilkes
County to Charlie H. and
Maggie Snyder Love. He was a member of St. John 3-17 Church on Dancy Road. Mr. Love was a veteran of the Marines. He was
preceded in death by a son, Scotty Wayne Love.
Surviving are
three sons, Billy Church, Frank Adam Love, Paul Lester Love, Jr., all of North
Wilkesboro; two daughters, Christina Love of Boomer, Misty Love of North
Wilkesboro; four brothers, Floyd Clayton Love, William David Love, both of
North Wilkesboro, Carter Lee Love of Florida, Charles Clay Love of Morganton;
two sisters, Beatrice L. Porter, Linda Kay Rhoades, both of North Wilkesboro;
and seven grandchildren.

services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 4, at Miller Funeral Chapel
with the Rev. Derwin Greeson officiating.
Burial with Military Rites by V F W Post 1142 will be in the Church Family

Mrs. Laws was
born September 22, 1919, in Ashe
County to Clausie
Rosenburg and Mertie South Spears. She
worked for the Wilkes County School System and Wilkes Senior Citizens
Council. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church
in Purlear. Mrs. Laws was a volunteer
for the Senior Companion Program where she received the 2003 Governor’s Award
for Outstanding Volunteer. She was a
loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a friend to all she met.
She is
survived by one daughter, Linda Laws Phillips, and husband Wayne of Purlear;
one sister, Ona Yates Johnson of Purlear; one brother, Baxter M. Spears of North Wilkesboro; one granddaughter, Belinda Phillips
Laws, and husband Rick and one niece, Brenda Caudill of Purlear.

Mr. Shumate
was born July 4, 1921, in Wilkes
County to Charlie and Mamie Lowe Shumate.
He worked for Tyson Foods and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist
Church. Mr. Shumate served in the United States Army
during WWII.
Four
brothers, Tracy Shumate, Clay Shumate, Jimmy Shumate and Conard
Shumate preceded him in death.
He is
survived by his wife, Hazel Caudill Shumate of the home; two daughters, Jane
Higgins and husband, Wayne of Hays, Judy Swift and husband, Jerry of North
Wilkesboro; three sisters, Mabel Dillard of North Wilkesboro, Gladys Handy of
Roaring River, Irene Crouch of Stony Point; one grandchild and two
great-grandchildren.

Eldridge Church. He served in the United States Army during
WWII, where he was taken prisoner. Mr.
Church was of the Baptist faith.
He is
survived by his wife, Emma Mae Reinhardt Church of the home; two sons, Tony
Church of Conover, Eddie Church of Kannapolis; two brothers, Kern Church of
Raleigh, Joe Church of Millers Creek; two grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley
Church.

Sr., age 89, of 3312 Reepsville Road, Lincolnton,
died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at his home.
His funeral will be 1:00
p.m., Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Daniels
Lutheran Church
with Rev. Ted Bost officiating. His body will lie in state 30 minutes prior
to the service. Burial will follow in
the church cemetery. The family will
receive friends in the parish house of Daniels Lutheran
Church following the
service.
Mr. Wellborn was born in Wilkes County
and was the son of the late Guy Gibbs and Annie Elizabeth Hubbard
Wellborn. He was a retired poultry
inspector for the US Department of Agriculture.
Mr. Wellborn enjoyed bowling and was an avid gardener.
Survivors are his wife,
Virginia Yount Wellborn of the home; one son, T.L.
“Tom” Wellborn, Jr., and wife Nancy of New Jersey; three daughters, Nancy W. Parleir and husband Robert of Lincolnton, Anne W. Meger and husband Daniel of the home and Rebecca Wellborn
and husband Jonathan Nyberg, of Durham; three brothers, Homer C. Wellborn of
North Wilkesboro, Fred Wellborn of Charlotte and Toby Wellborn of Wilkesboro;
one sister, Elizabeth Rash of Statesville; seven grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Nancy Jane Caudill Brown. She was a
member of Little Mountain Baptist Church.
Surviving are
three sons, Robert G. Shumate and wife Barbara of Hays, Rom A. Shumate and wife
Barbara of Chesterfield, SC, Ralph Shumate and wife Janette of Ferguson; two
daughters, Betty Shumate Sink of Winston-Salem, Joyce Adams and husband Fleet
of North Wilkesboro; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and
four great, great-grandchildren.

Rev. Tommy Mathis and the Rev. Leon Church officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
