Tickets on sale for Playmakers’ The Outsiders

Tickets are now on sale for Wilkes Playmakers production of “The Outsiders”, directed by Paula Joines.  The show will be performed at Benton Hall, 300 D Street, North  Wilkesboro.  Showdates are:  September 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 7:30 p.m. and September 7 and 14 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for students and seniors and may be purchased by calling 336-838-7529 or ordering online at www.wilkesplaymakers.com.  Tickets may also be purchased directly at the box office - Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Mastercard and Visa are accepted.

The play adaptation of The Outsiders is based upon the classic young adult fiction novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton.  Published in 1967. the novel has sold over 10 million copies and is second only to Charlotte’s Web in  total sales of books to young people.  It is a story about brothers, teenage “haves” and “have-nots”, gangs divided by economic and social structures, and the violent turbulence of the early 60’s. It is a book that is often taught in the high school and middle schools due to its enduring story.  These characters are still found in our society today and experiencing The Outsiders gives today’s young people an avenue to explore these ever-present issues.
