Mrs. Barbara Ann Reid Randall, age 66, died Tuesday, March 24

Mrs. Barbara Ann Reid Randall, age 66, wife of Dr. Tony C. Randall, of Forest Drive, Wilkesboro died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Calhoun officiating.  A private entombment will follow at Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  The family will receive at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church Heritage Room from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the service.

Mrs. Randall was born in Iredell County, May 3, 1942, to William Paul and Lorene Miller Reid.  She was a member of Wilkesboro United Methodist Church.  Before retirement, she was in the retail clothing business in both Wilkes and Alexander County.  She was a member of the North Wilkesboro Lions Club, when she joined she was the first wife and only woman.  She was a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Jack Stickley Fellow.  She served as the club secretary from November 1999 until 2008.  Mrs. Randall was better known for her work with the VIP (Visually Impaired Support Group) where she was instrumental in the forming of the group and has remained active as the liaison between the group and the North Wilkesboro Lions Club.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Randall was preceded in death by a brother, William Lee Reid.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Randall is survived by two daughters, Cynthia R. Eller and husband, Terry of Purlear and  Toni Leigh R. Combs and husband, Charles of Wilkesboro; three sisters, Martha R. Mitchell of Stony Point, Margaret R. Combs of Statesville, and Linda R. Stewart of

Hickory; two brothers, Paul Edward Reid of Statesville and Kenneth Wayne Reid of Kannapolis; six grandchildren, Nolan, Jesse, and Rhett Eller, Randi Johnson,  Hunter and Tori Combs; three great granddaughters, Logan Johnson, Lauren and Layla Eller; one great grandson, Aidan Johnson all of Wilkes County.

Mr. William Harrison Barnes, age 77, died Monday, March 23

Mr. William Harrison Barnes, age 77, of Hwy 18 South, Moravian Falls died Monday, March 23, 2009 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Howell, the Rev. Montreal Howell, and the Rev. John Rowe officiating.  The body will be placed in the church at 1:30.  Burial will be in Thankful Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00 until 7:30 Wednesday night.

Mr. Barnes was born in Wilkes County, June 9, 1931, to William and Dora Barnes.  He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Daphne Horton Barnes of the home; two daughters, Ollie Mae Jackson and husband, Rev. Willie Jackson of Boomer and Darlene Ward and husband, Todd of Moravian Falls; four sons, Harrison Eugene Barnes of Wilkesboro, John Walter Barnes and wife, Carol, Roger Dale Barnes, and James Nathaniel Barnes all of Moravian Falls; three sisters, Barbara Ann Carlton and husband, Rev. Roosevelt Carlton, Martha Glendora and husband, Tommy Carlton, and Jennette Alice Barnes all of Moravian Falls; two brothers, Paul Barnes and wife, Artie Sue of Moravian Falls and Henry Barnes and wife, Patsy of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Carol Lynn Hodge Kilby, age 55, died Saturday, March 21

Mrs. Carol Lynn Hodge Kilby, age 55, wife of Gary Kilby, of Amelia Drive, Wilkesboro died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, at Goshen Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Miller and the Rev. Hubert Bullis officiating.  The body will be placed in the church at 1:30.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

Mrs. Kilby was born in Forsyth County, November 13, 1953, to James Lindy and Peggy Joann Hester Hodge.  She was a member of Goshen Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kilby was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Carol Kilby and a sister, Patty Hodge.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kilby is survived by one son, Gary Wayne Kilby of the home; two sisters, Renee and husband, Ricky of Stoneville and Wanda and husband, Corky of Lexington; six grandchildren.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Miss Kali Brekia Martin, age 4,  died Wednesday March 18

Miss Kali Brekia Martin, age 4, of Cockerham Road, passed away Wednesday March 18, 2009 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.  Kali was born January 1, 2005 in Surry County to Shannon Veronica Martin. 

                Kali attended Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church.

                Survivors include; Her mother, Shannon Veronica Martin.  Two Brothers, Kenyon Martin and Zion Martin.  A sister, Alasha Martin.  Her Grandparents, Jessie (Billy) Smith and Jordan (Glenda) Martin.  Her Uncle, Dean (Candice) Martin.  A host of cousins, aunts and friends. 

                Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 25, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Timothy L. Porter.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery

Mrs. Eunice Gay Royal, age 79, died Sunday, March 22

Mrs. Eunice Gay Royal, age 79, of Black Forest Road, North Wilkesboro died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Wilkes Regional Medical.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Miller Creek with Rev. Keith Lyons and Rev. Glenn Caudill officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery. 

Mrs. Royal was born December 16, 1929 in Wilkes County to Thomas and Ollie Royal.  Before retiring, she worked at Bassett-Walker Company for more than 30 years.  She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.                           

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dewey Royal and one sister, Ruth Royal.

She is survived by: one son, Gary Royal of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Helen Wagoner of McGrady, Carol Wyatt of North Wilkesboro and one brother, Clate Royal and wife, Wilma of McGrady.

Mrs. Sandra "Sandy" Clonch Borders, age 58, died Thursday, March 19

Mrs. Sandra "Sandy" Clonch Borders, age 58, of Gwyn-Hayes Street, North Wilkesboro, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at University of North Carolina Hospital. Mrs. Borders was born March 11, 1951 in Wilkes County to Bruce and Callie Anderson Clonch. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Borders was involved in numerous volunteers activities including Camp Evergreen, Hospice and the Child Fatality Prevention Team. Her passions included spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors while camping and gardening. She had a wonderful zest for life, always on the go, loved to travel and a true friend to many. She retired from Lowe's Companies and afterwards she was the office manager at The Ragg Company. Mrs. Borders was preceded in death by a daughter, Diann Walker. She will live forever in the hearts of many and be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous heart and contagious spirit.

                Surviving are her husband, Bobby Borders of North Wilkesboro; her parents, Bruce and Callie Clonch; maternal grandmother, Mabel Anderson of North Wilkesboro; two sons, Jody Walker and wife Robin of Millers Creek, Jeff Walker of Clearwater, Florida; one sister, Audrey Dyer and husband Allen of Wilkesboro; and two brothers, Larry Clonch and wife Teresa, Tim Clonch and wife Nathalie all of North Wilkesboro four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

                Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Agnes Pauline Kilby Moore, age 90, of Armory Road, North Wilkesboro died Friday, March 20, 2009.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Reins-Sturdivant chapel with Dr. N. Nelson Granade, Jr. and Mr. Robert Matthews officiating.  Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park

Mrs. Moore was born June 4, 1918 in Wilkes County to McClellan and Annie Eller Kilby.  She was a member of Hinshaw Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Berlwyn Martin Moore and a daughter, Alice Ann Moore.

She is survived by: one daughter, Elaine Moore Michael and husband, Bill Michael of North Wilkesboro; one grandson, Greg Michael of Wilkesboro; one sister, Norma Kilby Hayes and husband, Jack Hayes of Wilkesboro and one brother, Floyd Kilby and wife, Bernice of Wilkesboro.

Mrs. Ila DeEtte Bauguess Hanks, age 92, of North Old Hwy 21, Thurmond died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Heritage Healthcare of Elkin.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Roaring Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie McMillan and Rev. E. R. Wiles officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery. 

Mrs. Hanks was born July 17, 1916 in Wilkes County to Tyra and Nelia Felts Bauguess.  She was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Reece Hanks.

She is survived by: one son, Royce Hanks of Thurmond; two grandchildren, Brian Hanks, Darrell Hanks; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Hanks, Cara Hanks and Rusty Hanks.

Mr. Danny Ray Royal, age 53, died Thursday, March 19

Mr. Danny Ray Royal, age 53, of Moss Wood Road, Traphill died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Sun Bridge Nursing Home in Sparta.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Larry Andrews officiating.  Burial was in Liberty Knob Baptist Church Cemetery.  

Mr. Royal was born June 25, 1955 in Surry County to Don Ray and Louise Brown Royal.  He worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and was a member of Elk Spur Baptist Church.  Mr. Royal served in the National Guard.

He is survived by: his daughter, Faye Lynn Royal of Traphill; his parents, of the home; two sisters, Freda Gaye Stryker and husband, Erik of Albuquerque, NM, Terry Lynn Dorton of the home and one brother, Roy Vance Royal and wife, Kimberly of North Wilkesboro.

Mr. Johnny David Bowers, Sr., age 50, died March 18

Mr. Johnny David Bowers, Sr., age 50, of Myers Mill Road, Statesville, died March 18, 2009 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bowers was born June 29, 1958 in Iredell County to Richard Glenn and Nonnie Whitaker Bowers. He was preceded in death by both parents, a half sister, Audrey Bowers and a step daughter, Ann McHugh.

                Survivng are one son, Johnny David Bowers, Jr. and wife Misty of Harmony, one brother, Robert Bowers and wife Diane of Statesville,one sister, Jeannie Hamby of Olin, two half brothers, Richard Bowers and wife Patricia of Conover, Wayne Lambreth and wife Linda of Sanford, five half sisters, Barbara Sharpe of Statesville, Anita Benfield and husband Junie of Moorsville, Virginia Chambers of Statesville, Charlene Bowers of Monroe and Leila Dalangauskas of New Britain, Connecticut.

Glen Edward Johnson, 58, of Wilkes-Yadkin Road, Roaring River, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at his home.  He was born April 10, 1950 in Mount Vernon, OH to Ray and Betty Starmer Johnson. His mother, and one brother, James Ernest Johnson, preceded him in death.

                Survivors include: his wife, Carolyn Barnett Johnson of the home; his father and step mother, Ray and Louise Johnson of Mount Vernon, OH; one son, Eddie Johnson of OH; one stepson, Duane Scott Johnson and wife Sarah of Hickory; three stepdaughters, B. Robin Eller and husband Bryan of Ronda, Michell Smith and husband Jason of North Wilkesboro, Myra Jensen of Millers Creek; two sisters, Joanna Cline and husband Paul, Linda Stanley and husband Gary all of OH; 3 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

                Survivors include: three daughters, Brandy Hope Caudill of North Wilkesboro, Serinity Shive of Millers Creek, Jasmine Caudill of Hays; three sons, Ronnie “Nicholas” Caudill of North Wilkesboro, Devine Shive and Shawn Shive of Millers Creek; his father and step mother, Ronnie Neal Caudill and wife Clara Catherine of North Wilkesboro, his mother and step-father, Kathy Elizabeth Laws Hall and husband David of North Wilkesboro, his fiancé, Rose Shive of Millers Creek; two sisters, Jessica Marie Earp and Nancy Diane Caudill both of North Wilkesboro; three brothers, Bryan Caudill and Ricky Neal Caudill both of North Wilkesboro, Daniel Allen Caudill of Thomasville.

Danny Ray Johnson, age 15, died Tuesday, March 17

Danny Ray Johnson, 15, of Moore Ridge Road, North Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Wake Forest University Medical Center. He was born October 27, 1993 in Wilkes County to Gene Carroll and Linda Spicer Johnson.  A brother, Gene Johnson, Jr, paternal grandfather, Burke Johnson, and maternal grandmother, Dorothy Spicer preceded him in death.

                Survivors include: his parents of the home; one sister, Christy Johnson of the home; one brother, Austin Johnson of the home; paternal grandmother, Grace Johnson of North Wilkesboro.

One daughter, Melissa Stanley Royal, his parents, one sister, Kathy Maltba, and one brother, Arvil Stanley preceded him in death.

                Survivors include: his wife, Willa Dean Parsons Stanley of the home; one daughter, Michelle Marley and husband Michael of Ferguson; three sons, Arnold “Junior” Stanley, Jr. and wife Tammy of North Wilkesboro, Robert Cecil “RC” Stanley and wife Melissa of Purlear, Monty Stanley of Hays; four sisters, Bucella Combs, Wanda Combs, Doris Ann Smithey and husband James all of North Wilkesboro, Brenda Kennedy and husband James Curtis of Traphill; two brothers Archie Stanley and wife Darlene of Ronda, Albert Stanley and wife Dare of North Wilkesboro; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lena Sheets Hart, age 86, died Monday, March 16

Mrs. Lena Sheets Hart, age 86, of Millers Creek went home to be with her Lord Monday, March 16, 2009 after a long illness.  She was a resident at the Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care at the time of her passing.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Ervin Hart and Rev. Tim Pruitt officiating.  Burial was at Mountlawn Memorial Park

Mrs. Hart was born October 29, 1922 in Wilkes County to Matthew and Mary Bare Sheets.  She was a home maker and a retired school bus driver.  Mrs. Hart was a member of Poplar Cove Baptist Church.

Her parents; husband, Lundy Hart; three brothers, Howard Sheets, Wiley Sheets, Freeman Sheets; three sisters, Artie Wingler, Eda Bell Bowlin and Lillie Bare preceded her in death.

She is survived by: one daughter, Ella Sue Gant and husband, Johnny of North Wilkesboro; four sons, Ronald Hart, Hobart Hart and wife Sarah all of Millers Creek, Don Hart of Kannapolis, Allen Hart and wife, Ann of North Wilkesboro; three sisters, Lora Jane Sheets, Nora Wingler, Nadine Roten all of Millers Creek; nine grandchildren, Roxanna Nunn, Paula Luffman, Keith hart, Sharon Shumate, Randy Hart, Donna Barlow, Tracy Hart, Toby Pennell, Grey Gant; 14 great-grandchildren and special care givers, Marie Anderson and Debbie Roten.

Mr. Thomas Edward Rhodes, age 22, died Sunday, March 15

Mr. Thomas Edward Rhodes, age 22, of Homestead Drive, Hays, died Sunday, March 15, 2009. Mr. Rhodes was born February 18, 1987 in Wilkes County to Kenneth Ray and Debra Ann Hawkins Rhodes.  He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

            Surviving are one son, Hayden Junior Rhodes of North Wilkesboro; his parents of Hays; one sister, Beverly Sue Morrison of North Wilkesboro; half brother, Kevin Rhodes and wife Angie of North Wilkesboro; half sister, Kimberly Denise Rhodes of North Wilkesboro and fiancee, Kayla Laws of North Wilkesboro.

            Memorial services will be private. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock Wednesday night. Mary Alice Harris Smith died March 16

God has one more angel today.  Mary Alice Harris Smith joined heaven on March 16, 2009 from her home in Jonesville. 

                She started her journey on February 16, 1931 born to Hiram and Margie Shores Harris of Surry County.  Later married to Loyd Smith she was the mother to seven children.  Preceding her on this journey were her parents, husband, one son, Wayne; one grandson Johnny Wayne; one daughter, Gloria Jean; two brothers and one sister.

                Left to follow are children, Gail Sizemore and husband Tommy of Boonville, Glenda Bowen and husband Dale of Jonesville, Sharon Colbert of Ronda, Gary Smith of Jonesville, Jimmy Smith and wife Sandra of State Road; brothers, Aldon and Ted Harris; sister, Kathleen Broyhill; grandchildren, Shanel Hardy and husband Andy, Fetima Barker and husband Darrin, Chris Smith and wife Alisha, Matthew Ford, Lee Southard, Brianna Smith, Brandy Bowen, Chance Bowen and special grandson Keith of the home; four great grandchildren who where the joy of her days.  A member of Central Full Gospel Church in State Road, she leaves her church family and an extended family to cherish her also. 

                Funeral services were held Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Central Full Gospel Church by Rev. Bobby Norman.  A graveside service was held Friday, March 20, 2009 at Central Full Gospel Church Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Dewey Royal, age 84, died Monday, March 16

Mr. Robert Dewey Royal, age 84, of Black Forest Road, North Wilkesboro died Monday, March 16, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Millers Creek with the Rev. Keith Lyons and the Rev. Glenn Caudill officiating.   Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Royal was born in Wilkes County, March 1, 1925, to John and Lelar Jenkins Royal.  He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.  Mr. Royal worked for 43 years at Carolina Mirror as a glass cutter.

Mr. Royal is survived by his wife, Eunice R. Royal of the home; one son, Gary Royal of the home; one brother, Odell Royal of North Wilkesboro.
