Welborn book goes on sale Thursday

Just for The Record, a collection of columns by Ken Welborn, will go on sale Thursday. Welborn, the publisher of The Record, who writes a weekly column for the paper, will feature his first year's worth of columns in the collection. These columns are the stories you'd hear Welborn tell at the snack bar, sidewalk or behind his cluttered desk in his antique-filled office.
Since The Record began publication on Oct. 6, 1999, his columns have become one of the most popular aspects of the newspaper. They vary from humorous anecdotes about growing up on Hinshaw Street to serious reflections about lost friends and loved ones. Mostly, however, Welborn's columns offer the reader a real glimpse into the flavor of his community.
From hometown delicacies like Goodwill Burgers, to moving tributes to friends such as "The Code of the Great Unwashed," Welborn's stories and the way he tells them are unique. The book sells for $12.95. It will be available at the offices of The Record at the corner of E and 4th streets in North Wilkesboro. Coupons for orders are available inside this edition.
