Millers Creek to see more new
businesses By JERRY LANKFORD Millers Creek will see more new businesses opening this spring. Space for five businesses is expected to be completed by May, said Barry Bush of Lenox Properties. A 5,000-square foot building is being constructed near Millers Creek Commons shopping center — which is occupied by Food Lion and other stores. Bush said the large building, located between N.C. 16 North and Kite Road and which is expected to be completed by May, will be divided into five sections. Although no tenants have committed to the locations, “We’re talking to a pizza restaurant, a sub and wing restaurant and a coffee shop,” Bush told The Record on Tuesday morning, In the past two years, the area near the intersection of N.C. 16 North and Old US 421 (Boone Trail Road) has been a magnet for retail development. In addition to Food Lion, the area is also home for a 24-hour Fast Track store, Bojangle’s, Magic Video, Jaxon’s Grill, Taste of China and a laundry mat. A Dollar General store also opened last year across N.C. 16 at the Lovette Square shopping center. That store occupies the space of the former Lowes Foods store, which closed. The town of North Wilkesboro, as part of a sewer line expansion project, has extended sewer to the area so that businesses can hook on to the system. Bush and others say that population growth in Millers Creek and other western Wilkes County communities makes land near the intersection a prime target for commercial development. |
